A geminoid robot is a robot that is made specifically to mimic the appearance of a human being, the goal of course is to make a robot that is so similar to a real person that you couldn't tell them apart.
There are a few impressing geminoids out there, the latest being the Geminoid DK, in fact if you were to look at a still picture of him you probably wouldn't see it was just a machine in a human costume. That is, if it wasn't a close up.
So far though, all doubts wether they are real persons or not are dismissed as soon as they start to move.
The first one is the Geminoid HI-1, created by a japanese scientist called Hiroshi Ishiguro.
As you can see the movement is a bit jerky which gives it a slightly creepy look.
Read an interview with the creator here.
This one is the latest to attract attention world wide. Created in Denmark to look like Henrik Scharfe at the Aalborg university.
As with his japanese cousin, when he starts to move he looks a bit disturbing.

This one is also developed by Hiroshi Ishiguro. This time made to look like a female.
A lot better than the other two, but still a long way to go.
At first glance the topic of creating geminoid robots seems like a waste of time, but it could end up help us understand what we regard as "human" and what is required for us to engage in social situations.
Two years after the final mission of Endeavour and the ending of the space shuttle era, the intrument called "Alphamagnetic Spectrometer" may have something to tell us.
Iíve seen a lot of bloggers and web pages lately, claiming that the NSA has released a document containing hard proof that radio signals of extraterrestrial origin has been received. The document in question actually DOES state that signals has been observed, and it also contains a visual description of the signal in question.
By the year 2025 Nasa plans to land astronauts on an asteroid, anyone thinking of the movie Armageddon yet?
By digging up Martian soil and thoroughly isolating genetic material from microbes, scientists could compare the genetic sequence to what we find here on Earth. The instrument responsible for collecting the genetic material is under development by researchers at Harvard and MIT and could catch a ride with a rocket to Mars in a decade or so.
